Walked in on a whim; fantastic decision. Authentically prepared food and local sake. Quick service, no frills dining. Doesn’t matter when the food is that good. If I return to Nara, I will visit again!

Very good udon dishes. I had to dock then a star because the staff seemed rushed. Lots of running and worried looks. This came through in the service too. They asked the party next to us to leave right after eating and it felt like they were judging how quickly we were eating.

Great udon. I had the spicy dashi dipping noodles which were really delicious. The chicken tempura is highly recommended as is the local sake

Udon is hard texture then other restaurants.

The chicken tempura curry udon was delicious! It is a pretty huge bowl so make sure you’re hungry. I’d say the price (~1000 yen) is good for the size– at other udon places I usually can get a smaller bowl of regular udon for 500 yen. It came with a free onigiri for lunch. My boyfriend had the regular dashi udon with chicken tempura (850 yen) and wasn’t that impressed, he said it was a little plain. But many japanese people were ordering it so it’s probably not bad. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They both spoke English.

What a great udon on a rainy day! Quick service, tasty broth, and nice crunchy tempura shrimp. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Best udon I’ve eaten in Japan. The place is elegant yet relaxed. Staff if very friendly and the udon are amazing. Last but not least, the price is absolutely fair! Thank you for a meal we won’t forget :)

The food is really delicious with wonderful service.

Had fried chicken udon, bonito soup broth matches the fried chicken. Fried chicken came in the soup, the exterior batter is soft but the chicken was still crispy at certain parts. The fatty beef slices udon is delicious too.

We happened across this place after walking through from the Kofuku-ji temple complex - it's right opposite a branch of Macdonalds in the shopping arcade, so you can't miss it. The style of food is no frills, and the general ambience is a little like a canteen, but I'd heartily recommend choosing this as your place to eat in Nara: the staff (ALL the staff) who work there cheerily call out the usual "arigato gozaimasu!" to every customer as they leave, but there's an added feeling of care in this place - you almost feel like your favourite aunt is slipping you an extra rice ball with your meal, just to make sure you've eaten enough! I had udon noodles in a wakame/dashi broth with tempura plum and tempura plain mochi (rice cake), which was exactly the starch hit I needed, and my partner had chicken curry udon soup, which had just the right Japanese curry spice level.

うまい！It is so perfect have a bowl of hot Udon after Todaiji historical tour, especially in winter!! Cold outside, hot inside! Nice place with nice flavor.

Go, you won't regret it. Best udon I've had in all of Japan. Literally went here because I was hungry after doing the standard feed the deer experience. Somehow found this shop and the udon has topped that of any in Osaka, Takamatsu, ect. Really, in Nara, who knew?

Great udon place and very nice service. Sides of chicken and shrimp tempura were also very good. A selection of local sakes complemented the meal very well. Reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Definitely one of the best meals we had in Japan. Very local. We had the curry soup with udon and chicken, and the udon with chicken. Both of them were amazing - although our favourite was the curry soup :)

This is the best udon that I had! Rich broth and chewy udon. Plus delicious tempura. A must try if you are in Nara.

I went here with a group of 12, 45mins before closing (14:15), and we didnt have to wait very long for a table, although we sat in smaller groups. The service was very good, and the food was excellent!

Udon noodles were super delicious, our server spoke great English and provided a vegetarian option of warm Udon with mushroom and soy dipping sauce. Server saw we were foreign and explained how to correctly enjoy and eat our meal. Price was reasonable, locale cosy and cash only.

Great price, chicken udon was very savory and best fried chicken in japan. The noodles were thick and they soaked up all the broth. Wifu had shrimp tempura, really good as well.

One of the best curry ramen I have ever had! We ordered the fired chicken and fish. The broth was just the right consistency, not too thick and not too thin. The noodles were cooked perfectly. I savored every bite. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for some where to eat outside the temple. It's not a far walk and there were menus in English!
